Body remodelling brings together a set of non-surgical techniques which act on the skin and on the tissues situated just beneath it. Some mobilise the tissues mechanically, by suction and kneading; others deliver an energy, in the form of waves or of ultrasound, at a chosen depth. All share one and the same principle, that of working the tissues in order to aim at an improvement in the firmness or in the appearance of the skin, without ever substituting for a treatment of obesity, for surgical management or for lifestyle measures.

How the session unfolds depends on the technique chosen. The area is first mapped out, then treated by successive passes with a handpiece. Depending on the process used, one may perceive a suction, a sensation of warmth, a tingling or a pressure. The duration of the session, the number of sessions and their spacing vary according to the indication and according to the surface area treated; they are specified in consultation.

The areas usually concerned are the abdomen, the flanks, the hips, the thighs or the arms. These techniques address localised situations, in a person whose weight is stable, and the results vary from case to case; they are not suitable for everyone. An ongoing pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain medical history or treatments, the presence of implanted devices or a skin condition affecting the area may contraindicate the procedure or lead to it being postponed.

After-effects may occur, such as redness, a sensation of warmth, swelling, tenderness of the treated area or bruising, whose intensity and duration vary from one situation to another. Other, less frequent effects exist and are explained to each patient before any decision. A prior consultation is compulsory: it allows the area to be examined, contraindications to be looked for, what the technique can or cannot bring in a given situation to be explained, and written information to be handed over. At the end of this discussion, it may be concluded that the procedure is not indicated.
