Non-surgical intimate medicine brings together medical procedures applied to the tissues of the intimate area, outside of any surgical intervention. Depending on the situation, my approach may call upon a laser treatment, a peel adapted to this area or hyaluronic acid injections, alone or in combination, with the aim of acting on the quality, the suppleness and the hydration of the superficial tissues. I regard these techniques as a possible contribution to comfort or to appearance, without a result ever being able to be announced in advance.

Carried out at the practice under conditions of medical hygiene, the session is preceded by a period of discussion and an examination. The area is cleansed and prepared before the procedure and, depending on the technique retained, a means of local anaesthesia or of cooling may be proposed and discussed beforehand. The length of the session, the number of sessions that may be necessary and their spacing depend on the indication, such that they are specified in consultation and cannot be fixed in advance.

These techniques concern the external intimate area. They may be envisaged when the request relates to comfort, to the quality or the hydration of the tissues, or to aesthetic appearance. My first concern, however, is to discern what belongs to a different pathway, since certain situations call first for a gynaecological opinion or another form of management, and any symptom deserves to be investigated before the slightest aesthetic procedure is envisaged. Depending on the case, the procedure may not be indicated.

After-effects may occur, such as sensitivity, redness, oedema, local discomfort and, depending on the technique, bleeding; discomfort may be felt during or after the procedure. Complications remain possible, and I set them out before any decision, as I do the instructions to follow and the contraindications. A prior consultation is compulsory, since it alone allows the examination, the information about the techniques, their limits and their risks, as well as a period of reflection before deciding.
