Hair diagnosis & assessment

Hair loss does not have a single cause. Before considering a treatment or a transplant, my approach rests on a precise medical diagnosis of the scalp and of the hair.

The hair consultation and trichoscopy

The consultation begins with the taking of a medical history and a clinical examination, completed by a trichoscopy, an essential step in my hair assessment.

Trichoscopy is a non-invasive examination carried out with the aid of a magnifying device that makes it possible to observe the scalp, the hair follicles and the hair shafts with precision. It helps in particular to appraise density, the calibre of the hairs, their possible miniaturisation and certain signs pointing towards a disorder of the scalp.

It thus makes it possible to refine the diagnosis, to determine whether a transplant is relevant and, when one is being considered, to assess with greater precision the quality of the donor area and the strategy to be adopted.

Depending on the clinical situation, further investigations or a laboratory work-up may also be proposed.

A medical approach

Hair diagnosis is a medical approach, and not an aesthetic procedure. It concerns the scalp and, depending on the request, the beard or the eyebrows, and it addresses situations of hair loss, of progressive thinning or of a change in density, in women as in men. It constitutes the preliminary step to any consideration of a transplant: my aim is then to determine whether an indication exists, and under what conditions — a procedure may, at the end of the assessment, not be indicated.

The assessment carries no obligation to undertake any subsequent management. Hair diagnosis itself remains a medical consultation; any management considered thereafter is the subject of specific information and of a prior consultation, which is mandatory. No health data is collected via this site.
