Medical blepharoplasty
Non-surgical improvement in the appearance of the eyelids, with limited indications assessed in consultation.
Also known as : droopy eyelids · eyelids without surgery
Bringing together non-surgical techniques applied to the skin around the eyelids, medical blepharoplasty rests on the delivery of controlled energy at the surface, according to the device selected in consultation, in order to induce localised skin retraction. It is not a surgical operation: no incision is made, no tissue is removed. The possibilities of this approach remain limited and do not cover those of eyelid surgery, something I make a point of setting out clearly from the first conversation.
The session takes place at the practice. After examining the eye area and marking out the areas concerned, I carry out the procedure point by point on the targeted skin. The practical arrangements, whether the device used, the comfort measures, the number of sessions, if any, or the duration, depend on each situation and are specified during the prior consultation; no protocol is standardised in advance, my aim being to adjust the procedure to each person’s morphology and expectations.
This approach is intended for selected situations: slight laxity of the skin of the eyelids, or a tired-looking eye area with no abnormality requiring surgical management. It treats neither a drooping of the eyelid of muscular or nerve origin, nor marked excess skin, nor significant under-eye bags, all of them situations that come under other forms of management. The indication is therefore not systematic and may be ruled out after examination, as similar appearances may cover different mechanisms.
After-effects may occur in the days that follow: redness, swelling, a sensation of tightness, the formation of fine crusts, local discomfort; a period of social downtime may be necessary. Complications remain possible, in particular changes in pigmentation or imperfect healing, and care and photoprotection instructions are given on a case-by-case basis. The eye area is a delicate region, which requires a careful and measured assessment. A prior consultation is mandatory: it allows the eyelids to be examined, the possibilities and the limits of the technique, the alternatives, the risks and the after-effects to be set out, and it allows confirmation that no contraindication stands in the way of the procedure.
