Skin assessment & diagnosis

The skin assessment is, above all, a medical evaluation appointment, with no associated aesthetic procedure. It rests on an interview, on a clinical examination of the face and on an analysis by skin imaging. This imaging can document certain parameters of the skin, the elements analysed being specified in consultation; it supports my medical analysis, without ever replacing it.

The appointment opens with a conversation, as my aim is to understand each situation before offering the slightest piece of advice: history, current treatments, products already used, known sensitivities, expectations. The examination and the photographs are then carried out at the practice, and afterwards discussed with each patient. A skincare routine may be built from these elements, where this is indicated. The duration of the assessment and the practical arrangements are specified in consultation.

The assessment concerns the skin of the face. It can fit into several situations, according to each person’s path: a first step, a routine that has become difficult to adjust, a doubt about the products used, or the preparation of the skin before a procedure such as a peel, a laser treatment or injections. Depending on the case, it can also serve as a reference point for follow-up over time.

The assessment involves no invasive procedure. The procedures or treatments that may be proposed at its conclusion may, for their part, entail after-effects, which would be set out to each patient before any decision, procedure by procedure. I favour a measured approach: recommendations are not systematic and a procedure may not be indicated. The assessment is itself a consultation appointment; it does not remove the need for the mandatory prior medical consultation before any procedure decided upon afterwards.
